Feast of Trumpets 2019: Why Trumpets?

Wallace G. Smith Published: September 30th, 2019

“In the seventh month, on the first day of the month, you shall have a sabbath-rest, a memorial of blowing of trumpets, a holy convocation. You shall do no customary work on it; and you shall offer an offering made by fire to the LORD” (Leviticus 23:24–25). But why did God set aside a day for the blowing of trumpets? What should we learn from the association of trumpets with one of God’s annual Holy Days? In this sermon, Wallace Smith takes us through the meaning that trumpet blasts carried in the ancient world, and reveals how God’s Feast of Trumpets carries a message of alarm, fear, and terror, but also of joy, excitement, and hope.
