To be “born again” describes the end result of a process that begins when we accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, repent of our sins, receive water baptism, and receive the Holy Spirit.
Gifts of the Spirit only come as a result of developing the fruit of the Spirit. Being able to speak in tongues is a gift of the Holy Spirit, not a fruit. We need the Holy Spirit to produce the fruit to overcome sin.
