Weekly Update

December 5th, 2002

Greetings everyone,

Mr. and Mrs. Apartian, Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Pyle, and Mr. and Mrs. Fratto are all in North Carolina seeking housing this week, so the office is somewhat empty. With the cold front (with freezing rain and snow) that moved in, I'm sure that they are being well initiated into the mid-Atlantic climate. Do you wonder how they like it? Well, Mr. Apartian called today and assured me that he thought the pilot made a wrong turn and landed in Alaska! "The temperature in Anchorage, Alaska is warmer today than it is in Charlotte, North Carolina!" he said. Wonderful for the Alaskans….

CHURCH ADMINISTRATION

My wife and I visited Prescott, Arizona last Wednesday to view a potential Feast site and talk with a property representative at a Resort Hotel there. Prescott is a very nice area, and if we can come to terms on the costs I believe we can have a great Feast there. Meanwhile, we continue to search and we will keep you informed of our progress.

COMMENTS

President Teddy Roosevelt, in his first inaugural address, spoke freely of the blessings of God upon our nation, and his dependence upon God's direction. He said, "I reverently invoke for my guidance the direction and favor of Almighty God."

Great men readily acknowledge God. President George W. Bush has repeatedly recognized God in his public statements. From President George Washington to President Bush, America's Presidents have acknowledged God's existence, regardless of their personal moral standards.

"It has been said that when President Roosevelt entertained diplomatic guests at the White House he was fond of taking them out to the back lawn at the end of the day. As the President stood gazing at the night sky, all eyes would eventually be cast heavenward, as his were. In his day, the vast array of stars was not dimmed by the city lights, and the magnificent display of God's brilliant creation would overcome the party. After a long moment, Mr. Roosevelt would say, 'Gentlemen, I believe we are small enough now. Let's go to bed.'"

However, one wonders why so many academicians are so arrogant and proud that they cannot follow the example of great leaders. What is it about the acquisition of great knowledge that seems to induce intellectual inebriation?

As men of power may become drunk on power, men of academic achievement seem to become drunk on intellectualism—each forgetting that it was the gifts of God that empowered them to receive power or knowledge.

Psalms 107:8 "Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!"

Have a great Sabbath, and keep warm in the North Country—North Carolina included.
