Weekly Update

September 5th, 2002

Greetings everyone,

Mr. and Mrs. Meredith left today for Albuquerque, New Mexico for the Feast of Trumpets. We pray for good weather so that they and the brethren have a pleasant and profitable visit. According to Mr. Glen Gilchrist they have a very full schedule of events.

Mr. and Mrs. Richard Ames are en-route to Alexandria, Louisiana, for the Feast of Trumpets. My understanding is that all of the Louisiana churches are combining there.

Mr. Dibar Apartian will preach at a combined meeting for the four southern California churches, hosted by the Orange County church in Garden Grove.

Mr. Rodger Bardo and Mr. Jerry Ruddlesden have reported that their meeting this week with lenders (for the financing of the property in North Carolina) went very well. Please pray that a meeting of the Bank board of directors next Tuesday will confirm their loan offer.

Bhimavaram, Andhra Pradesh, South India

Mr. Bruce Tyler reported that he and Mr. Rajan Moses visited India August 19-23rd.

Mr. Tyler performed the first Living Church of God wedding—for Raj Kumar and his bride Juyona. "I spoke in English, and was translated by Raj Kumar's younger brother Israel."

"There were between 300 to 500 friends and relatives in attendance—Christian professing as well as Hindus." We hope that the translation conveyed our understanding of the origin and importance of marriage. I hope that Raj Kumar can attend the Feast of Tabernacles in Australia, to better understand the meaning of the feast and how the Living Church of God organizes it."

After a 12-hour train trip to Madras (now Chennai) Mr. Tyler flew to Colombo, Sri Lanka to visit the brethren. This will be his first visit to Sri Lanka since the Church became registered.

Glasgow, Scotland

Mr. Tom Turner reported that the civil action of Living Church of God versus the Sheridans, made necessary by their filing documents against our "company" records in the UK, has been formally and finally resolved at court—entirely in the Church's favor. An Interdict is now in place to prevent those parties who had signed the spurious documents from ever doing so again, and the court has also awarded expenses against the Sheridans, meant to help defray the costs of defending against their actions.

The attorney argued well, everyone involved worked and prayed hard, but credit for the victory belongs to God.

Manila, Philippines

Mr. Basil Osillos reported that Juliene Somera Tacad, a little child in Isabela was miraculously healed of a congenital heart disease (as diagnosed by doctors in the hospital). Juliene is now at home with her family.

Mr. Tex Benitez reported that his wife is now home recovering from a stroke.

Mr. Phillipe Casing just completed a trip to the Visayas where he met with most of the members in Leyte, Samar, Biliran, and Cebu. Mr. Casing had to manage with numerous vehicular problems—earning the title "Pastor-driver-mechanic!"

Mr. and Mrs. Larry Solomon are now in Kansas City (as of September 1st) to begin training under Mr. Charles Bryce. Larry joins Phil Sena who began his training last April 1st, and Sheldon Monson who has now moved to Minneapolis, MN for field experience. We are very pleased with the fruit born by the training program to this point, and are expecting good service from these men in the future.

Annual Reno Singles Ski Weekend

"The Reno church will once again be hosting a singles ski weekend this winter, December 20-24. We have already booked the lodge, and are in the process of making arrangements for another year of great skiing and fellowship. More information and application forms will be available after the Feast from Mr. Rod McNair.

I was very sad today, having heard that Mr. Gerald Waterhouse died. While he was not a member of our fellowship, I attempted to visit him on my recent trip to Florida. I did not know that he had moved away from there, so I missed seeing him.

Mr. Waterhouse was the first field minister under whom I served in St. Louis and Springfield, Missouri in 1959. I was sent out to be trained under him and, as we were both single, we shared an apartment in Springfield, Missouri.

Mr. Waterhouse was very dedicated to God's Work, and I learned a great deal of Bible knowledge from him. He made mistakes, but his mistakes were not from lack of zeal or wrong motive, I am sure. He and I shared many humorous, and some tragic experiences together.

I experienced numerous acts and examples of his faith during our work together. He was fervent in prayer. We would regularly spend fourteen to sixteen hours working, but he was up by 6:30 every morning. His dedication and faith have been a source of strength to me during my years as a pastor and administrator to pastors.

Tomorrow my wife and I depart for Sutter, California. We will be spending the Feast of Trumpets in Roseville, California, with our son, his family, and the brethren from that region.

We hope you all have a safe journey to services, and a spiritually rewarding Feast of Trumpets.
