COUNCIL OF ELDERS CONFERENCE REPORT #2

On Tuesday, August 17, 1999, the conference looked at a variety of approaches toward preaching the Gospel to the world more effectively. The Church is currently broadcasting the Tomorrow's World television program on 70 stations including three in Australia, one in New Zealand and three in the Philippines. The Church recently began broadcasting over Radio Manx in Great Britain. Responses from the telecast in the U.S. and Canada are up 45 percent from last summer's rerun season.

The Council received a report on the redesigned www.lcg.org web site, which went online on Monday; the site has seen its traffic increase by approximately 30 percent in the last month. Strategies for increasing response further were suggested, including the creation of two-minute radio commentaries as well as daily commentaries on the web site. Council members discussed the need to encourage field ministers to contribute to the store of commentaries that would be required for a daily commentary.

After a discussion on the subject of leadership and leadership training for elders and church members, Dr. Meredith led the afternoon session in an interactive and inspiring session on the theme of restoring apostolic Christianity. The ministers were heartfelt and open in encouraging a greater depth of spiritual mindedness, love, and unity—individually and church-wide.
