Church News: 2011

This week at the office December 29, 2011

As we turn the page on another year, what a year it has been! Sweeping political upheaval in North Africa and the Middle East, Germany taking the lead in demanding stricter fiscal union in Europe, and continued spiraling debt in the United States while political aspirants jostle to position themselves for the 2012 elections. Plus some of the wildest weather on record! Tighten your seat belts-2012 will not be the "end of the world," but it is certainly shaping up to be another turbulent year as we hurtle towards the dramatic end of this age!

Meanwhile, it's been busy in Charlotte as we hosted the annual Charlotte Family Weekend, with over 400 brethren in attendance. Dr. Meredith has completed another Tomorrow's World article this week, as well as taping a new telecast entitled, "Which Christ Do YOU Worship?" Dr. Winnail and Mr. Hernandez were in Mexico City last Sabbath, with 108 in attendance at services and brethren from ten countries tuned in to the live transmission. They also attended the Guatemala Youth Camp and conducted a Spanish Ministerial Conference this week. Mr. and Mrs. Ames and Mr. and Mrs. Jim Meredith are heading for Missouri to attend the Kansas City Family Weekend. Budgets and other plans for 2012 are being worked on as we close out the final week of 2011. Thank you for your continued prayers for God's people who are suffering from health trials, and for God's Work that continues to go forward around this globe!

Severe weather is again in the news! This week a “deadly snowstorm” and fierce winds hit the Great Plains of the USA, and a typhoon with heavy rains and sudden floods killed hundreds, damaged property and displaced many people in the southern Philippines (see report below). Here in Charlotte, Mr. Meredith has been writing and conducting meetings. Mr. Pyle reports that last week’s Tomorrow’s World telecast, entitled “Is the Rapture Coming Soon?,” presented by Mr. Rod King is expected to draw more than 4,300 responses. This coming weekend is the Charlotte Family Weekend, and we are expecting more than 350 people, including more than 120 who will participate in the Marriage Seminar on Friday. Mr. Mario Hernandez and I will be in Mexico City for the Sabbath and then travel to Guatemala to visit a Youth Camp and conduct a short conference for Spanish-speaking ministers from Central and South America. We have also heard from a number of brethren with serious health problems who want to express their thanks for cards they have received and for prayers offered on their behalf.

While much of the Western world prepares to celebrate Christmas, significant events continue to convulse Europe, as the long-prophesied Beast prepares to emerge! Here in Charlotte, Mr. Meredith held several meetings, completed another co-worker letter and taped a new television program titled “Will YOU Face the Antichrist?” Mr. Ames also taped a new program this week, titled “Seven Keys to Answered Prayer.” Mr. Pyle reports that the Tomorrow’s World telecast has received more than 5,000 responses for five weeks in a row! Mr. Rodger Bardo informed us that 26 visitors attended the follow-up Tomorrow’s World Special Presentations in Phoenix and Prescott, Arizona last weekend. In 2011, we conducted 149 TWSPs around the world. More than 121,000 invitations were sent out this year, and more than 4,300 visitors came to the presentations. We are currently scheduling new presentations for 2012. Your prayers and support for all these avenues for preaching the Gospel are greatly appreciated!

Mr. Meredith has been writing and holding meetings this week. Mr. Pyle reports that the television program, entitled “Prophets and Pretenders,” presented by Mr. Wally Smith should bring over 5,800 responses. This is the fourth week in a row that the program has drawn over 5,000 responses. We had an encouraging turnout (58 guests) for the Tomorrow’s World Special Presentations, “The Gathering Storm,” last weekend in Phoenix and Prescott, Arizona.

While much of the world’s attention is focused on the latest developments in Europe’s financial and political situation, the Work of God continues to grow. Responses to last weekend’s Tomorrow’s World television program by Mr. Meredith, titled “God Heals,” should exceed 5,300. This is the third week in a row that we have received more than 5,000 responses! We will also begin airing the program on Sky Angel’s Angel One channel on the Dish Satellite Network and on KTAQ in Dallas, Texas (on Sundays at 8:30 a.m.). These stations reach millions of viewers. Mr. Michael Gill has very encouraging news that the Tomorrow’s World telecast will begin broadcasting in Australia on Prime7 TV4—a commercial station with national coverage. Here in Charlotte, Mr. Meredith has been writing and holding meetings. Mr. and Mrs. Ames had very encouraging visits to congregations in Phoenix and Tucson, Arizona, over the Thanksgiving weekend. I will be in Phoenix and Prescott, Arizona this coming weekend for Tomorrow’s World Special Presentations. Your prayers are appreciated for all these efforts to preach the Gospel to the world.

This is a short week for those of us in the United States since the annual holiday of Thanksgiving occurs on Thursday. We all certainly have much to be thankful for—especially the incredible privilege of being called at this time to understand God’s precious Truth. While Americans are focused on Thanksgiving celebrations, very significant developments continue to emerge in Europe, where German efforts and ideas seem destined to rearrange the political nature of the continent. Mr. Meredith taped another television program this week and is busy writing as we put together the January-February 2012 edition of the Tomorrow’s World magazine. Last weekend, Mr. Ames’ television program “Revelation: The Mystery Unveiled” is expected to generate more than 5,400 responses. Mr. Pyle reports that more than 53% of the responses (more than 2,900 calls) came from “first-time” callers. This was the highest percentage of first-time responses to a program this year! Mr. and Mrs. Ames will be in Tucson and Phoenix, Arizona, where he will speak this coming Sabbath.

While America focuses on pre-election dramas, events of prophetic significance continue to develop in the bubbling crucible of Europe. This week in Charlotte, Mr. Meredith directed very profitable Council of Elders meetings from Monday to Wednesday. It was encouraging to hear the positive reports from various parts of the world where the Work is being done. We held a Living University Board Meeting on Thursday. Mr. Pyle reports that Mr. Meredith’s most recent television program entitled, “How To Know When Christ Will Return!,” is expected to draw more than 5,300 responses and that last weekend’s responses overwhelmed our call center. The Tomorrow’s World Special Presentations last weekend in Baltimore, Washington, Indianapolis, Akron, Abilene and Midland drew more than 80 visitors. This coming weekend Dr. Wil Pierre will be in Haiti for services and to conduct a TWSP. Thank you for your prayers for God’s guidance and blessing for all these events.

Severe weather continues to batter parts of the globe—an “epic” storm is pounding coastal Alaska and flood damage continues in Thailand and Northern India. In Europe, the financial crisis threatens to alter the make-up of the eurozone and “unravel” what has been built up over the last six decades—significant changes appear to be in the wind! Mr. Meredith is back in Charlotte after making Tomorrow’s World Special Presentations in Baltimore and Washington. It is encouraging to note that a total of 189 visitors attended the six TWSPs conducted last weekend. Six more follow-up presentations will take place this coming weekend. Mr. Pyle reports that we should receive more than 4,400 responses to Mr. King’s telecast last weekend entitled, “The Apostles Amazing Journeys.” Next week we will be holding a Council of Elders conference here in Charlotte. Your prayers for the meetings are appreciated.

While fall colors spread over North Carolina, a freak snowstorm blanketed the Northeast USA, floods ravaged Thailand and northern Italy, earthquakes rocked Turkey and Peru and the ongoing financial crisis in Europe is bringing about significant events that will impact the future of that continent and the world. It seems like we are watching prophecies come alive on an almost daily basis! Here in Charlotte, we are “back in the saddle again.” Mr. Meredith held several meetings this week, finished a semi-annual letter and is heading to the Baltimore-Washington area where he will conduct services and two Tomorrow’s World Special Presentations this weekend. Mr. Ames and some others here at Headquarters have been a bit “under the weather” since the Feast, but they are mending. Mr. Wayne Pyle reports that while we were away the Tomorrow’s World telecast produced the highest festival-period count with nearly 14,000 responses in North America—almost 20% over last year’s count. This weekend, I will conduct TWSPs in Indianapolis, Indiana, and Akron, Ohio, and Mr. Dan Hall will conduct TWSPs in Abilene and Midland, Texas. Dr. Scott Winnail will be in Kingston, Jamaica for services and a short conference. Your prayers for these important activities to preach the Gospel will be appreciated. Please remember God’s people who are in need of prayers for their healing and for serious challenges they are facing.

We are receiving very positive reports about the Feast of Tabernacles 2011 from all around the world. God certainly blessed the Fall Festival this year with beautiful weather, inspiring sermons, uplifting music and warm fellowship. We have also heard many positive comments on the Behind the Work film that conveyed Mr. Meredith’s observations about the recent history of God’s Work and his role in this exciting Work. We would like to take this opportunity to thank each of you for your dedicated service and willing cooperation at the Feast this year. When everyone works together in a spirit of harmony, the Feast truly becomes the high point of the year and an exciting foretaste of the coming Kingdom of God!

This week at the office September 28, 2011

After a tumultuous season politically, economically, and in the weather, we are grateful that God’s Holy Days have finally arrived, just in time!  With the Feast of Trumpets tomorrow and the Day of Atonement just ten days away, and the Feast of Tabernacles following quickly after, it’s a wonderful time to immerse ourselves fully in God’s plan of salvation for all mankind.  Dr. and Mrs. Roderick Meredith are in Boston, Massachusetts, this weekend for the Feast of Trumpets and the weekly Sabbath; Mr. and Mrs. Richard Ames are in Columbus, Ohio, and Indianapolis, Indiana; and Dr. Douglas Winnail is in Fort Lauderdale and Ocala, Florida.

Mr. Wayne Pyle reports that last week’s Tomorrow’s World telecast, “Reaping the Whirlwind” is expected to reach nearly 4,000 responses.  He also reports that the telecast has now been viewed by 2.8 million households over the past twelve months—over 20 million households since its inception in 1999.  According to Nielsen’s, more than 15% of all North American TV households have now viewed the telecast at least one time.  We are certainly grateful for the avenues God has given us to preach and publish the Gospel!  Please pray for the family of Mr. Sergio Carvajal, our elder in Chile, who recently died after a prolonged illness.  And please remember all of our brethren beset with health difficulties, especially those who won’t be able to attend the Feast.

This week at the office September 22, 2011

It has been another eventful week on the world scene. A powerful 6.9 earthquake rocked northeast India, Tibet and Nepal causing landsides and claiming more than 100 lives. Volcanoes are rumbling again in Indonesia, serious flooding and mudslides have ravaged southwest China, a typhoon with 130 mile per hour winds and drenching rain pounded eastern Japan and more hurricanes are brewing off the coasts of Mexico and the USA. Europe continues to struggle with a financial crisis that could impact the composition of the EU; the pope visits Germany and speaks to the German parliament; and the Palestinian bid for statehood in the UN threatens to embolden Israel’s neighbors and embarrass the United States. Ancient prophecies continue to come alive!

Here in Charlotte, Mr. Meredith, Mr. Ames and Mr. King taped three more Tomorrow’s World programs. Mr. Meredith’s latest co-worker letter was mailed to more than 10,000 recipients. Last week’s Tomorrow’s World program by Mr. Ames entitled, “Death, Resurrection and Your Future,” is expected to draw more than 4,900 responses. Mr. Wayne Pyle reports that our Internet and Tomorrow’s World magazines have reached all but two nations in the world: North Korea and the tiny city-nation of San Marino in northern Italy. Mr. Ben Whitfield was encouraged the results of the follow-up Tomorrow’s World Special Presentations in Denver, Colorado, and Casper, Wyoming. The Fall Holy Days begin next Thursday with the Feast of Trumpets. Plans for the Feast of Tabernacles are coming together well. Please pray that God will inspire and bless the Fall Holy Day season and protect His people has they travel to where He has placed His name.

World events and Bible prophecies continue to converge towards a striking climax! While Israelite nations continue their slide away from God and reap the inevitable consequences, rumors are flying that the eurozone appears to be on the verge of breaking up, and the 27-nation European Union may be headed for a dramatic re-arrangement that could include reducing the number of nations in the Union to the vicinity of ten—the number long-depicted in the Scriptures for the end-time beast power of Daniel 2 and Revelation 17. One observer has noted, “September is likely to be a defining month for the euro area’s destiny.” September will also see the Palestinians make a bid for membership in the UN that could pit America and Israel against the world. As we prepare for the Fall Holy Days—that picture the culminating events in God’s plan for mankind—Satan appears to be preparing for his final attempt to disrupt God’s plan.

This has been a busy week in Charlotte. Mr. Meredith, Mr. Ames and Mr. Rod King are taping new Tomorrow’s World programs. Mr. Meredith chaired a phone meeting for the Council of Elders and is writing a co-worker letter. Last weekend’s TW program by Mr. Meredith on “Answered Prayer” is expected to draw more than 4,100 responses. Mr. John Meakin was able to attend a briefing in London at the residence of the German Ambassador. Tomorrow’s World Special Presentations last weekend by Mr. Rod McNair in Denver, Colorado and Casper, Wyoming drew 59 visitors. Mr. Ben Whitfield will make follow-up presentations this weekend. Mr. Gerald Weston’s presentation in St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada last weekend drew 47 guests. Follow-up presentations last weekend in New Orleans, Louisiana and Biloxi, Mississippi resulted in 21 visitors. Please pray that these activities will bear much fruit, and that God will hear the prayers of His people for help and healing.

Weather-related disasters continue to make headlines in the USA. Last weekend’s tropical storm Lee that drenched the Gulf Coast forced the cancellation of Tomorrow’s World Special Presentations scheduled for New Orleans, Louisiana, and Biloxi, Mississippi.   High temperatures and tinder-dry conditions across the southwest have spawned some of the worst wildfires in the history of Texas. Some of our members there have had to evacuate homes, but no lives or member properties have been lost. This week a number of very significant statements have appeared about the urgent need to form a “United States of Europe” to combat the European debt crisis. This week in Charlotte, Mr. Meredith has been writing, and holding meetings about the Internet. Mr. Hernandez and I and several staff members had a productive meeting by phone with our Board members in Costa Rica. Mr. Meredith and Mr. Ames spoke to the office employees about the importance of focusing on finishing the end-time Work of God. Last weekend’s Tomorrow’s World television program by Mr. Wallace Smith entitled, “Diagnosis: Christianity,” is expected to draw more than 4,500 responses. This weekend Mr. Rod McNair will present TWSPs in Denver, Colorado, and Casper, Wyoming. Follow-up TWSPs are rescheduled for New Orleans and Biloxi, Mississippi. Please keep all of these activities in your prayers.

This week the northeastern portion of the United States has been assessing the damage wrought by Hurricane Irene. High winds and flooding caused billions of dollars of damage, left millions without electrical power and claimed the lives of more than 40 people. Mr. Jonathan McNair, area pastor for the New England congregations, reports that most of our members were protected from damage during the storm. High temperatures, drought and wildfires continue to plague the south central portion of the USA, while violence and bloodshed continue to unsettle the Middle East. In the coming weeks, euro zone countries will face serious decisions concerning their spreading financial crisis—as end-time prophecies come alive! Here in Charlotte, Mr. Meredith has conducted a number of meetings. Mr. Meredith and Mr. Ames taped new Tomorrow’s World television programs this week. The title of Mr. Meredith’s telecast is:  “2012 In Prophecy,” and Mr. Ames’ telecast is titled, “Christmas:  The Missing Message.” Last week’s program by Mr. Ames entitled “Overcoming Stress” is expected to draw more than 4,300 responses. I had a very encouraging trip last weekend to New Orleans, Louisiana, and Biloxi, Mississippi, to make Tomorrow’s World Special Presentations that drew 79 guests. Mr. Rod Reynolds and Mr. Ed Breaux will make follow-up presentations this weekend. Mr. Irv Woelfle reports that 10 guests attended the follow-up presentations in Peoria and Springfield, Illinois. Mr. Gerald Weston reports that 104 first-time guests attended two TWSPs last weekend in Ottawa, Canada. Please continue to pray that God will bless these efforts to preach the Gospel.

This week, the east coast of the United States near Richmond, Virginia was rattled by a 5.8 earthquake for the first time in 67 years. This coming weekend, the eastern seaboard of the U.S. is bracing for a major hurricane packing winds of more than 100 miles per hour. At the same time these events are happening, major “financial earthquakes” threaten Europe, America and the global economy—as ancient biblical prophecies continue to come alive! Here in Charlotte, Mr. Meredith has been writing a Tomorrow’s World article and he chaired a Living University Board meeting. Mr. and Mrs. Ames have returned from the U.K., where they visited ministers, brethren and a number of congregations (see report below), and Dr. and Mrs. Wil Pierre have returned safely from a very positive trip to Haiti and the Dominican Republic. Mr. Mario Hernandez is currently visiting congregations in South America. Mr. Wayne Pyle reports that last week’s television program by Mr. Meredith entitled, “How to Watch World Events,” should draw more than 5,000 responses. The Tomorrow’s World Special Presentations last weekend in Peoria and Springfield, Illinois, by Mr. Rod McNair, resulted in a total of 47 visitors. This weekend I will be in New Orleans, Louisiana and Biloxi, Mississippi for TWSPs. Your prayers for these efforts to reach God’s chosen people are much appreciated.

Following the rioting and looting in the UK, a number of reports have appeared indicating that similar outbreaks of violence could occur in the United States in the months ahead as jobs are lost and domestic frustrations grow. This week, Mr. Meredith taped a new Tomorrow’s World program entitled, “God Heals,” and he finished a co-worker letter that was mailed to more than 11,000 recipients. Mr. and Mrs. Ames are winding up their trip to the UK in London, where Mr. Ames will speak to combined congregations this Sabbath. Mr. Pyle reports that last week’s Tomorrow’s World television program by Mr. Rod King entitled, “What Is the Beast?,” is expected to draw around 4,900 responses. Dr. Germano reports that the fifth year of Living University is now successfully underway with just over 200 students enrolled in fall semester classes. Mr. Ken Frank notified us that a total of 50 visitors attended the follow-up Tomorrow’s World Special Presentations (“Where Is God’s Church Today?”) in Norfolk and Richmond, Virginia. Mr. Weston reports that 24 new visitors attended TWSPs in Thunder Bay, Ontario, last weekend. This coming weekend, Mr. Rod McNair will make Tomorrow’s World Special Presentations in Peoria and Springfield, Illinois. Your prayers for these efforts to preach the Gospel and serve God’s people are much appreciated.

Prophecy marches on! This past week, England has been shaken by rioting youths who have destroyed property and taken innocent lives. Strikes and destructive violence have also troubled some South African cities in recent weeks. In Europe and America, monetary concerns are increasing, and Germany continues to gain more financial leverage over other nations on the continent. Here in Charlotte, Mr. Meredith has been writing and holding meetings. Mr. Ames is in the UK for Church visits. Mr. Wayne Pyle is doing better, and he reports that last weekend’s Tomorrow’s World television program, “The Coming Day of the Lord,” by Mr. Ames is expected to draw more than 5,400 responses. Last weekend, I was able to make Tomorrow’s World Special Presentations in Norfolk and Richmond, Virginia and then drive to Delaware, Ohio to visit the Living Youth Camp (for teens). Mr. and Mrs. Jonathan McNair and their dedicated staff of volunteers have put together an excellent program for helping our teenagers grow and develop. It was very inspiring to meet and talk with both staff and campers and to tour the facilities of the camp. In a troubled world, we certainly have much to be thankful for!

This week at the office August 4, 2011

This past week the fractious United States government temporarily patched up its embarrassing squabbles over the federal budget, while the Germans are emerging as the real financial power in Europe. A searing heat wave continues to roast almost 30% of the southern part of the USA while thousands are dying of starvation in parts of Africa—and troubles continue to erupt in the Middle East. All these events are fitting into end-time Bible prophecies! Here in Charlotte, Mr. Meredith held a number of meetings this week, and Mr. Hernandez has returned from very profitable visits in Europe. Last week’s Tomorrow’s World telecast by Mr. Meredith, program #345, “Seven Steps to Destruction” is expected to draw more than 5,500 responses. Mr. Jonathan McNair reports about 200 campers and staff arrived for the teen Living Youth Camp in Ohio. This weekend, I will be in Norfolk and Richmond to give TWSPs and then make a short visit to the Living Youth Camp in Ohio. Please remember brethren in your prayers who are dealing with serious health problems—especially Mr. Wayne Pyle who has been dealing with cancer.

With the tragic shootings in “peaceful” Norway and the mounting financial problems in Europe and America, prophetically significant events continue to unfold as the world hurtles towards the climax of this age. This week in Charlotte, Mr. Meredith held a number of meetings and also recorded his sermon for the Last Great Day. Mr. Ames will make a Church visit this weekend to the Memphis, Tennessee, congregation and Mr. and Mrs. Dexter Wakefield will be making a Church visit in Asheville, North Carolina. Mr. Wayne Pyle reports that last week’s Tomorrow’s World program by Mr. Wallace Smith, “Seven Signs of the Antichrist,” should generate more than 6,000 responses. Last weekend, I was able to make Tomorrow’s World Special Presentations in Louisville, Kentucky, and Cincinnati, Ohio, that drew 140 visitors. Mr. and Mrs. Rod McNair travelled to Wyoming for a weekend of activities with brethren in the Colorado and Wyoming congregations. Please pray that God will continue to guide, direct and bless His Work.

It is good to be back home in Charlotte! The trip to New Zealand, Australia and South Africa was very profitable. The response to the Tomorrow’s World Special Presentations was beyond our expectations and the attendance for most of the follow-up presentations has been encouraging. It was also very inspiring to see and experience the warmth and dedication of our leaders and members in the countries “down under”—yet it was also sobering to hear the concerns of members and visitors about the uncertain conditions that these nations face looming on the horizon. Here in Charlotte, Mr. Meredith held a number of meetings this week and he taped his Opening Night message for the Feast of Tabernacles. Mr. Ames has written a powerful and informative co-worker letter that was mailed this week to subscribers. Mr. Wayne Pyle expects 5,400 responses to Mr. Ames’ program “End-Time Prophetic Events,” offering Revelation: The Mystery Unveiled! Mr. Jim Meredith is now at Headquarters to fulfill his new duties in the Festival Office and as Mr. Roderick Meredith’s personal assistant. Mr. Hernandez is in Switzerland and will be preaching in Geneva this Sabbath. Mr. and Mrs. Rod McNair will be attending the annual Family Weekend for the Wyoming congregations. Mr. and Mrs. Ames will be visiting congregations in the Atlanta, Georgia area this weekend, and I will be in Louisville, Kentucky and Cincinnati, Ohio for two more Tomorrow’s World Special Presentations. Your prayers for these activities will be appreciated.

As extreme weather continues to dominate the headlines, God is mercifully blessing the Work in the United States and around the world.  Mr. Ames’ Tomorrow’s World Special Presentations in Chicago and Milwaukee generated 114 visitors.  The special presentations were followed on Monday by a powerful “derecho” (violent windstorm) that left hundreds of thousands of Chicagoans without electricity this week.  But God didn’t allow the special presentations to be derailed!  Last week’s Australia and New Zealand Tomorrow’s World Special Presentations resulted in a very encouraging 286 visitors (55 in Adelaide, 110 in Perth, 7 in Brisbane, 114 in Auckland)Dr. Douglas Winnail is now in South Africa visiting congregations and conducting meetings, and will return to Charlotte early next week.  Mr. Mario Hernandez is in Europe, spending the Sabbath with brethren in Paris.  The Texas Pre-Teen camp concluded successfully last week, and it sounds like the hiking, kayaking, and rafting of the Maine Adventure camp concluded on Wednesday, although challenging, was a great success!

Here in Charlotte, Dr. Meredith has been writing, conducting meetings and recording more material for the Behind the Work film.  Last week’s telecast, “The World’s Most Vital Need,” is expected to generate 3,100 responses.  Mr. Gerald Weston has been in the TV studio this week, recording upcoming China telecasts: “What Is Freedom” and “A Scientific Approach to Morality.”  Mr. Wallace Smith has also been in town, recording telecasts: “The Fight Over Hell” and “Will Christians Be Raptured?”  Please take note of the deadline for ordering personal hymnals (July 31), and the request for all brethren to register for Feast site activities and volunteer service by the same date.

It’s camp season!  Missouri Pre-Teen camp concluded successfully last weekend, with 50 pre-teen campers in attendance.  Texas Pre-Teen camp has been running all this week with an exciting array of activities—even including introductory astronomy! (For information about all the youth camps, check out www.livingyouth.org.)  Fifteen campers and ten staff participating in the Adventure Camp in Maine began their ascent up Mt. Katahdin on Thursday. What an exhilarating way for our young people to spend their summer!  We wish to thank all our staff and volunteers for the many long days they spend serving at these camps.

In parts of Arizona and New Mexico, brethren are enduring oppressive heat, fires and brownouts. Here in the office, Dr. Meredith recorded another segment for the upcoming Behind the Work film.  Responses from the semi-annual offer have now topped 38,000. Dr. Douglas Winnail is Down Under, spending several days in the Australian office with Mr. Bruce Tyler and other leaders. Dr. Winnail will conduct Tomorrow’s World Special Presentations in Adelaide and Perth this weekend.  Dr. Scott Winnail travelled to Adelaide this week to meet with the Regional Office staff and LU students regarding Living University.  Mr. Mario Hernandez left this week to visit brethren in Portugal, Spain, France, Switzerland, and Belgium.  Mr. and Mrs. Richard Ames are in Chicago and Milwaukee this weekend for TWSPs in both cities.  Please continue to pray for all these efforts, and for all our brethren suffering from serious illnesses, including Mr. Sergio Carvajal!

As the United States prepares to celebrate this year’s Independence Day on July 4th, ironically, America is anything but “free,” enslaved by an impossible debt burden.  Fireworks and parades cannot mask the growing uneasiness about the unthinkable—but increasingly possible—chance of a “technical default” on America’s soaring debt this summer.  Prophecy is truly being fulfilled before our eyes.

Meanwhile, through God’s mercy, the Work continues to surge here in the United States and around the world!  Last weekend, Tomorrow’s World Special Presentations were given in Belfast and Dublin, Ireland (Mr. Henry Cooper); two each in Edmonton and Grand Prairie, Alberta (Mr. Gerald Weston); and in Austin, Texas (Mr. Phil Sena).  These presentations generated 99 visitors, for which we are grateful.  This coming week, Mr. Dan Hall will conduct the Texas Pre-Teen Camp at Fort Parker State Park, just south of Dallas (see announcement below).  The winners of the Living Youth Camp essay (and scholarship) contest have been announced on the www.livingyouth.org website. They are: Haley Ginn (first place), Wes Kendall (second place), Shawn Plagenza (third place), and Ariana Del Signore (honorable mention).  Congratulations to all the participants!

Dr. Douglas Winnail has arrived in Auckland, New Zealand, where it is a cool 7 degrees Centigrade (sounds kind of nice!).  More than 100 visitors are expected for his presentation on Saturday afternoon.  Please keep him and Mr. Mario Hernandez (who will be travelling to Europe next week), and all of our traveling ministers in your prayers.

The world is certainly a dynamic place today—with economic and political uncertainty in Europe, turmoil in the Middle East and across North Africa, the United States and Britain facing major financial crises, volcanoes spewing ash in Siberia and Chile, earthquakes shaking New Zealand, and major flooding in China and Central North America, while wildfires burn in other areas. Jesus linked these very events to the end of the age, yet most major news sources ignore any connection to Bible prophecies. However, a major part of our mission as God’s Church is to explain the prophetic significance of these events and show that we are living in very sobering times!

Here in Charlotte, we are still processing responses from Mr. Meredith’s latest semi-annual letter that was mailed to more than 310,000 subscribers, offering the DVD “The Antichrist and Spirit Wars.” Mr. Meredith is in the midst of taping segments for this year’s “Behind the Work” film that will be shown at the Feast of Tabernacles. Mr. Wayne Pyle reports that responses to the Tomorrow’s World television program have grown at an annualized rate of 16.5% each year for the last 12 years—which is very encouraging! Last Sabbath, 21 new people attended the Tomorrow’s World Special Presentation that I conducted in Austin, Texas. In Mexico City, 64 visitors attended TWSPs given by Mr. Mario Hernandez—and several thousand connected to hear his presentation via the internet ! The month of July will be busy with pre-teen camps in Missouri and Texas and a Living Youth Adventure Program in Maine. Mr. Mario Hernandez will travel to Europe and Mr. Ames will give TWSPs in Chicago and Milwaukee. Next Tuesday, I will head to New Zealand and Australia to give TWSPs in Auckland, Brisbane, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth before heading on to South Africa and then back to Charlotte. Your prayers for all these efforts to serve God’s people and preach the Gospel will be much appreciated!

Reports coming in indicate that the Day of Pentecost was a very inspiring and uplifting experience for Living Church of God members around the world! Mr. and Mrs. Meredith had a very encouraging visit with congregations in the area of Toronto and were able to tour the new Canadian office. Mr. and Mrs. Ames were in Gainesville, Georgia for a combined service. I appreciated the opportunity to share the Holy Day with congregations in the Washington, DC area. Mr. and Mrs. Davy Crockett were in Asheville, North Carolina; Mr. Mario Hernandez was in Mexico City and Dr. Scott Winnail was in Guyana. Dr. and Mrs. Wilner Pierre had a very positive visit to Martinique. This week, Mr. Meredith has finished a co-worker letter that will be mailed out tomorrow. This weekend, I will head to Austin, Texas for services and a Tomorrow’s World Special Presentation. Mr. Hernandez will also be giving Special Presentations in Mexico City this Saturday and Sunday. We also received encouraging news last week that Dr. and Mrs. Germano sold their home in the North Carolina mountains and will be moving to Charlotte in time for the beginning of the fall semester of Living University’s fifth year of operation. Your prayers for the continued growth of God’s Work are deeply appreciated.

This coming Sunday we will once again celebrate one of God's Holy Days—the Day of Pentecost that pictures the outpouring of the Holy Spirit and the miraculous beginning of the New Testament Church (Acts 2)—a Church that Jesus said would continue to exist down through the ages (Matthew 16:18). It is truly a privilege to be called to be part of the Church of God and to have the opportunity to help fulfill its mission of preaching the exciting gospel of the kingdom of God and to make ready a people (Luke 1:17) to serve with Jesus Christ in the coming government of God—which the world today certainly needs. A number of ministers from Charlotte will be traveling this weekend to visit local congregations: Mr. Meredith will be in Canada, Mr. Ames will be in the Atlanta area, Mr. Hernandez is off to Mexico City, I will be in the Washington, DC area and Dr. Scott Winnail, as well as Dr. Pierre, will be in the Caribbean. Please pray for the safety of everyone who will be traveling and that God will inspire and bless His people at this special time.

This week at the office June 2, 2011

Severe weather conditions and violent politically-motivated turmoil continue to ravage various parts of the world. However, last weekend, 79 singles from all over the USA came together in Charlotte for a weekend that included a Sabbath service at Headquarters, instructional seminars, fellowship and recreation. I traveled to Texas for a combined service in Tyler and to conduct a very encouraging South Central Regional Conference. This week in Charlotte, Mr. Meredith has conducted several meetings dealing with various aspects of God’s Work. Mr. Wayne Pyle reports that last weekend’s Tomorrow’s World television program #356 by Mr. Ames, “You Can Understand Prophecy” should receive more than 5,300 responses. Mr. and Mrs. Dexter Wakefield have arrived in Charlotte where Mr. Wakefield is assuming his new duties as Director of Business Operations and continuing to write for Living Church of God publications. Mr. and Mrs. Wyatt Ciesielka have moved into a home in Florida where Mr. Ciesielka will pastor congregations in Fort Lauderdale and Tampa. Mr. David Stiffler will pastor congregations formerly served by Mr. Ciesielka including Little Rock, Arkansas, and Memphis, Tennessee.  This weekend, Dr. Scott Winnail will be in Kingston, Jamaica for services, a board meeting and Leadership Conference before heading to Trinidad and then Georgetown, Guyana for Pentecost. Please continue to pray for God’s blessing on His Work.

The big news this week has been the severe weather—some of the worst in decades—in the central part of the United States—tornados, floods, and drought further to the west. Here in Charlotte, we are getting back to a normal schedule after the Council of Elders meetings that occupied most of last week. This week, Mr. Meredith conducted a finance meeting where we looked at projections for the rest of the year that are very encouraging, and for which we are very thankful. We have also reviewed a new song leading booklet and DVD that should be ready to send out soon. Several men and their families are in the process of moving to new assignments. A major Singles Activity is scheduled for this weekend in Charlotte. I will be in Tyler, Texas to conduct a Regional Ministerial Conference. On June 12 is Pentecost and a number of ministers and members will be traveling for combined services. Your prayers for God's inspiration and protection on all these activities will be much appreciated.

Joplin tornado update May 24, 2011

Dear Brethren,

Some have expressed concern about how our brethren are faring after the devastating tornado in Joplin, Missouri.  We are still gathering information from our pastor there, Mr. Karl Beyersdorfer, but to this point there are no reports of injuries to any of our brethren, though some suffered significant property damage.  Please continue praying for our brethren affected by these severe weather systems.

This has been another busy week. On Monday, ten Living University students were awarded certificates and degrees at the 3rd annual LU Graduation. The audience heard a stirring commencement address by Mr. Meredith about “Daring to be Different” and some very thoughtful comments by Mr. Tony Leman, a new graduate from New Zealand. Tuesday evening was the Second Passover. On Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, we held very profitable Council of Elders meetings. Reports from Regional Directors and Regional Pastors noted positive trends in attendance and overall feelings of unity and focus in local congregations. We discussed the continued development of Living University, the Living Youth Program and summer camps, manpower needs, more effective ways of preaching the Gospel using television, publications, TWSPs and the Internet, as well as a number of doctrinal issues. Mr. Wayne Pyle reports very positive increases in responses to the telecast in South Africa and New Zealand. Mr. King’s recent program #399, “The Apostles’ Prophetic Journeys,” should draw more than 3,000 responses.

It is good to be home in Charlotte after a very profitable trip to the UK for visits and a Regional Ministerial Conference. It is very inspiring to see the dedication of God’s people and the excitement and appreciation in the eyes of new people coming into contact with God’s Truth and His Church. It has also been encouraging to hear how God has protected His people during the recent severe weather that has hit various areas of the globe.

This week, Mr. Meredith and Mr. Ames taped new programs for the World Tomorrow telecast: “What “The World’s Most VITAL Need” and “End-Time Prophetic Events.” Dr. Meredith also completed a semi-annual letter that will be mailed mostly next week to about 305,000 subscribers around the world. Mr. Wayne Pyle reports that last week’s program on “Answered Prayer” presented by Mr. Meredith should bring more than 4,400 responses and that the new TV station in Los Angeles, KCAL, is already beginning to draw good responses. We are very thankful that the income for the month of May continues to be strong. Mr. Rod McNair conducted an Internet conference for Festival Coordinators. This coming Monday, May 16, Living University will hold its third graduation with ten students from various countries receiving degrees or certificates. This past academic year we have had five on-campus students here in Charlotte and about 130 on-line students from around the world. Next Tuesday through Thursday, we will hold a Council of Elders meeting here in Charlotte. Your prayers for safe travel and for God’s guidance on the meetings will be greatly appreciated.

As the Southeast picks up the pieces from last week’s storms, and Texas tries to recover from devastating wildfires, floods from spring rains now threaten vast portions of the American Midwest (see News and Prophecy).  Is God trying to get our attention?  With troubles mounting in modern Israelite countries around the world, what a privilege it is that we in this Work know why these things happening, and can help others to understand it as well!

Here in Charlotte, Dr. Meredith has been working on a new semi-annual letter this week, and Mr. Wayne Pyle reports that KCAL, our new station in Los Angeles, is “off and running” after its first airing last week.  The Finance Department reports that the income is holding steady just above budget, which is encouraging.  Our weekly Sabbath attendance (not Holy Day) is showing a good increase as well, with year-to-date averages running at 8.9% above last year in the United States, and 7.4% worldwide.  Dr. Douglas Winnail reports that “the trip to the UK has been very profitable and the Regional Conference was very inspiring and productive.  It has been very encouraging to see the growth that has occurred here.”  He also commented on the warmth and focus of the brethren and on the camaraderie of the leaders in the UK, Ireland, and Belgium.  Dr. and Mrs. Winnail will be returning to the “States” tomorrow, May 6.

This week at the office April 28, 2011

The Eastern part of the United States has just experienced what may go down in U.S. history as the most violent April ever for tornados.  Last Wednesday night, the deadliest string of tornados in almost 40 years swept across six states, leaving whole neighborhoods devastated.  At least 266 people were killed across the region, with 180 lost in Alabama alone.  We are grateful to report that God protected His people through these storms, even miraculously!  Thank you for your prayers for all of our brethren who were in the path of these killer tornados.

Against this backdrop of grief and destruction, God’s people have been faithfully observing His commanded Spring Holy Days—with an increase of 8.2% in attendance over last year.  What an inspiration it is to once again be reminded of God’s awesome plan of salvation for mankind!  And now that the Spring Holy Days of 2011 are over, our travelling Headquarters ministers are beginning to return to Charlotte: Dr. and Mrs. Meredith from Los Angeles, California; Mr. and Mrs. Ames from Seattle, Washington and Concord, California; Dr. and Mrs. Scott Winnail and Dr. and Mrs. Wilner Pierre from the Caribbean; and Mr. and Mrs. Bob League from Huntsville, Alabama.  Both Dr. Meredith and Mr. Ames also conducted Tomorrow’s World Special Presentations during their trips.  Dr. and Mrs. Douglas Winnail are still in England where he is conducting a Ministerial Conference.  Mr. Mario Hernandez is still travelling in Latin America, and conducted Last Day of Unleavened Bread services from Colombia via the Internet.  Thank you for praying for the safe travels of all of our brethren and ministers during the Holy Days.  We hope everyone had a meaningful, inspiring—and safe—Passover and Feast of Unleavened Bread!

This week at the office April 14, 2011

We are about to observe the Spring Holy Days that picture the initial steps in God’s Great Plan of Salvation for mankind. The Passover is designed to remind us of the tremendous sacrifice that Jesus Christ made for the sins of the world.  The Days of Unleavened Bread provide a period of self-examination in the light of God’s Word to help us grow mentally and spiritually so we can become part of God’s Family.  Mr. Meredith will be traveling to California for the Spring Holy Days and to do a Tomorrow’s World Special Presentation in Orange County.  Mr. Ames will also travel to the West Coast, to make TWSPs in the Seattle-Tacoma and San Francisco areas. Mr. Rod McNair will visit congregations in Alabama, Dr. Scott Winnail will be in Barbados and I will be in England for the last Day of UB and for a short Ministerial Conference.  Mr. Mario Hernandez will be in Chile, Bolivia and Colombia for the Spring Holy Days.  Mr. Wayne Pyle reports that Mr. King’s recent telecast, “Reaping the Whirlwind,” drew 4,297 responses and that Mr. Ames’ telecast last weekend, “Overcoming Stress,” could go over 5,000.  Last weekend, 33 guests attended the follow-up TWSPs in Brandon and Hattiesburg, Mississippi by Mr. Rod McNair.  Mr. Gerald Weston was in Charlotte this week to tape several telecast before heading back to Canada.  Mr. Charles Ogwyn reports that the redesigned www.TomorrowsWorld.org website was launched yesterday. Please pray that God will bless and protect His people during the coming Spring Holy Days.

We just finished a very positive phone meeting with our Council of Elders. As always before the Passover, Satan tries to stir up problems here and there—often over picky issues that resurface every so many years. However, the overall state of the Church appears to be stable and growing around the world as members look forward to the Spring Holy Days and stay focused on the Big Picture! Last weekend, more than 280 visitors attended Tomorrow’s World Special Presentations (62 in Charlotte, 85 in Chattanooga and Nashville, Tennessee, and 139 in British Columbia, Canada. This week Mr. Meredith finished a co-worker letter and taped a new Tomorrow’s World television program, titled “Who Is the Antichrist?,” offering the booklet on the same topic. This coming weekend, Mr. Rod McNair will be making a TWSP in Asheville, North Carolina. Your continued prayers for God’s Work and God’s people are always needed and appreciated. Please remember those around the world who are experiencing the traumatic results of weather-related events and political turmoil that has disrupted their lives. May God’s Kingdom come soon!

The Middle East continues to “boil and bubble” with new developments coming almost daily, while Europe struggles to pull itself together and the U.S., Britain and other Israelite nations continue their sleepy march towards the edge of a cliff. Here in Charlotte, Mr. Meredith is working on another co-worker letter and earlier today taped a new Tomorrow’s World program, titled “The Middle East in Prophecy.” Mr. Ames’ TW program last weekend, entitled “Space Wars Ahead,” should receive more than 3,900 responses. Mr. Rod King and Mr. Simon Muthama report that they have had a very profitable visit with a new group of 47 people in Uganda. Dr. Germano is in Charlotte this week to tape lectures for Living University classes and hold a number of meetings. Last weekend we had 29 visitors for the Tomorrow’s World Special Presentation in Greenville, South Carolina. On Friday, the day before the presentation, I was invited to do an interview on a radio station in Spartanburg, SC. The interview went well with the station manager (who reads Tomorrow’s World magazine) asking some very interesting questions about why the world keeps Christmas when it is not in the Bible, etc! This coming Sabbath, Mr. Ron Poole, the pastor in that area, will make a follow-up presentation. Please keep this presentation in your prayers.

We appear to be watching prophetically significant events unfolding across the Middle East as long-suppressed Arab peoples rise up against unpopular and oppressive governments. It is also worth noting that while this wave of popular uprisings is pulling the Arab peoples together, the Israelite nations of America and Australia are struggling with severe weather conditions that God prophesied would plague His chosen people if they turned from His ways. Mr. Meredith addressed some of these issues in a meeting with our office staff today here in Charlotte. He stressed that we all have a part in the most important “crusade” in history as we warn this world of impending calamitous events that will mark the end of this age, and preach the exciting Gospel of the coming government of God. Mr. Wayne Pyle reports that last weekend’s Tomorrow’s World program by Mr. Wallace Smith, entitled “Terror of the Tribulation,” that offered the booklet Armageddon and Beyond, should draw more than 5,200 responses. Mr. Hernandez is currently visiting brethren in South America, and Mr. Rod King is heading for Africa for a number of visits and to do a Tomorrow’s World Special Presentation in Durban, South Africa. Mr. Dexter Wakefield reports that 84 visitors attended the follow-up TWSPs in Tampa and Ft Lauderdale, Florida. This coming weekend I will be in Greenville, South Carolina, for services and to make a Tomorrow’s World Special Presentation. Your prayers for all these efforts are deeply appreciated.

This has been an eventful week on the world scene with spreading turmoil in the Arab world, floods in Australia and South Africa, heavy snows in the northeast USA and continued talk of a looming financial crisis on the world scene. Here in Charlotte, Mr. Meredith has been writing and holding meetings. Last weekend’s telecast by Mr. Meredith, “Seven Steps to Destruction,” drew more than 5,385 responses—the second highest number requesting the booklet Fourteen Signs Announcing Christ’s Return that was advertised. Mr. Ames’ Tomorrow’s World Special Presentations in Florida titled “What’s Ahead for America?” drew 146 visitors in Tampa and 144 in Ft Lauderdale—which are very good responses! This coming weekend, Mr. Dexter Wakefield will make follow-up presentations in both cities, titled “Where Is God’s Church Today?” Last Sabbath, I had very encouraging visits to congregations in Braselton and Atlanta, Georgia. Next weekend I will make a TWSP in Greenville, South Carolina. Please keep these TWSPs in your prayers.

This week at the office January 6, 2011

The year 2011 is off to a “sobering” start! Severe winter weather has impacted much of Western Europe, a flood of “biblical proportions” has inundated much of Queensland, Australia, and winter storms have drenched California. On the world political scene, nations in the Middle East continue to generate turmoil and uncertainty, nations in the EU struggle to hold together, and American leaders continue to push their liberal and homosexual agendas on reluctant citizens. Sadly, within the Church of God community, division and discord have erupted again. Currently, the United Church of God is experiencing a traumatic split that will impact thousands of brethren. Please pray that God will guide His people at this critical time to see the importance of working together to fulfill the commission to preach the Gospel, warn the world and prepare a people to serve with Jesus Christ in the soon-coming Kingdom of God (1 Corinthians 1:10-13 & Ephesians 4:1-6). Mr. Meredith is sending out a special letter about these critical events and is announcing a Church fast for unity on Saturday, January 29.

Mr. Meredith finished a new Tomorrow’s World article this week and held a number of meetings. Mr. Wayne Pyle reports that last weekend’s Tomorrow’s World program by Mr. Meredith, “How to Overcome Satan” (that offered the booklet, Satan’s Counterfeit Christianity), is expected to draw nearly 4,000 responses. Dr. Germano has been in Charlotte this week to work on LU-related matters, and we held a very encouraging Living University Board Meeting on Wednesday and discussed some very exciting plans for the future.  Mr. Fitzroy Greeman, the LCG pastor in Trinidad, Barbados, Guyana, and northern Brazil, and his wife arrived on Wednesday for several days of meetings and activities here at Headquarters. I had a very positive visit to Kansas City last weekend (see report below). The visit provided an opportunity to meet and talk with many young people and brethren from various parts of the United States. Mr. Millich and the brethren in Kansas City did a fine job organizing this enjoyable annual event.
